I am running for the SMSD Board of Education because the past few years have been tumultuous for our teachers, students, and parents. I have witnessed the errors in the administration's practices, questioned the decision-making process, and have experienced the cuts to our classrooms. By following Board meetings and decisions made by the district, it was time I use my advocacy skills on a larger scale by running for the at-large seat for our Board of Education to ensure all students have a voice.
An Independent Thinker...
Our district needs a leader with Board experience, one who works to build consensus, and is an approachable voice of reason to advocate for excellence in education - the kind of excellence I was assured as a Shawnee Mission West graduate. I want the same for my kids, Will and Kate, who attend Corinth Elementary.
Fresh, New Perspective...
Our Shawnee Mission community has evolved but stagnant leadership has prevented the administration from adapting to these changes. We need professional, reasonable leadership who can hire the next superintendent - a superintendent that we can trust to partner with teachers, parents, and the business community to restore our position as Kansas' flagship school district.
